Frequently asked questions

Is CAPE abstinence-only?
No. CAPE teaches choosing your own pace — including waiting — as a leadership decision, and gives students skills that work whatever they decide. Protection content is limited to the Blue Track (grades 9–12) and taught only with institutional approval.
Can parents see the materials first?
Yes. A parent preview sample of the CAPE book and family communication templates are available. Request them here.
Is CAPE only for Texas schools?
CAPE is aligned to Texas TEKS health standards and uses Houston for its worked examples, but the skills apply anywhere. We can discuss local resource adaptations during a pilot.
Who can facilitate CAPE?
Certified CAPE Youth Facilitators who are mandated reporters, have passed a background check, and teach with a second adult in the room.
Is the Educators Hub free?
No. The Educators Hub is a licensed resource for certified facilitators. See certification.
Does The HARNESS Project provide medical care?
No. We teach health education, not medical advice. Talk with a healthcare provider about PrEP, PEP, Doxy-PEP, testing, or vaccines. To find a PrEP provider, use PrEPLocator.org.
Do the apps collect my personal information?
No account is required, and your entries are saved only on your device, not uploaded to our servers. Deleting the app or clearing your browser data erases them. Learn about Zero Stigma Tax.
What should I do after a possible HIV exposure?
PEP must be started within 72 hours of exposure — the sooner the better. Go to an emergency room today and ask for PEP.
